Koh Samui Beaches - Maenam Beach |
|
Maenam Beach is one of Koh Samui Islands quieter beaches. Maenam actually means river, mae meaning mother and nam water. It is located on the northern coast of the island with exceptional views of Koh Phangan one of Koh Samui's sister islands. It is more of a residential area with less traffic making it more secluded. It is often less visited as the sand is yellow and there is less activity than chaweng. Maenam Beach is a perfect destination for families. It has a long stretch of yellow sand beach surrounded by coconut trees. Great for long walks and early morning jogs and building sand castles. The water of Maenam is calm and in most places shallow as Koh Phangan protects it from the easterly currents. This makes it great for families, as the shallow and calm waters are perfect for little children to paddle and splash around in. The sunsets are also beautiful, with the sun setting from the east. Maenam has accommodation to meet every budget. Overall it has a more local feel and this is reflected in the local Thai food, with family owned restaurants. It has small shops selling teak furniture and a market in the mornings. Maenam Beach area is also a popular spot for wind surfing and kite boarding especially in the months of November and December. Maenam has some beautiful beach bars and restaraunts. Maenam Beach Area is a place to get away from it all and to truely relax. For the everyday party nightlife head to Chaweng its only 15 mins away by car or motorbike.
